1. Who we are

Offline Survival Kit (also distributed as SurvivalGuide, bundle identifier com.survivalguideapp.app) is an iOS application that provides offline reference content about plants, animals, survival skills, disaster scenarios, and first aid procedures.

The app is operated by Buqe, the Netherlands. For privacy-related questions, contact info@buqe.nl.

2. Summary

  • No account, login, email or password is required to use the app.
  • All reference content lives in a local database on your device.
  • Location data (GPS) is processed locally on your device and never transmitted to us.
  • Optional anonymous usage analytics can be disabled in Settings at any time.
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers, Google Analytics, Facebook pixel, or similar.

3. Data we process

3.1 Data stored only on your device

The following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:

  • Your selected language preference
  • Bookmarks of plants, animals, skills, scenarios and procedures
  • Downloaded offline map regions
  • GPS coordinates and compass heading (used only to display your position; never sent)
  • Your analytics opt-in/opt-out preference

This data is removed if you uninstall the app or delete it via the system settings.

3.2 Optional anonymous analytics

If analytics is enabled (the default), we collect anonymous app-usage events via PostHog, hosted on EU servers. This includes:

  • Which screens are viewed and how long
  • Which categories (e.g. "plants", "first aid") are most used
  • Anonymous device-level identifiers generated by PostHog (not linked to your identity)
  • App language, app version, operating system version
  • Session lifecycle events (app opened, backgrounded)

We do not collect: your name, email address, IP address-derived precise location, contacts, files, or any data identifying you personally. PostHog assigns a random anonymous identifier per installation — not tied to any account.

You can opt out anytime: open the app, go to Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous analytics, and toggle it off. From that moment on, no further events are sent.

3.3 Website analytics (this website only)

This website (offlinesurvivalkit.com) uses Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregated visitor patterns (pages viewed, country, device type, referrer). IP addresses are anonymized server-side. We do not use Google Analytics inside the app itself.

Google Analytics may set cookies and process data on Google's infrastructure. If you do not want to be tracked on this website, you can use your browser's "Do Not Track" setting, an ad-blocker, or visit via a privacy-focused browser. The mobile app is unaffected by this and continues to work without any website-side tracking.

3.4 Apple App Store

The App Store may collect download, payment, and basic usage information independently of us, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your Apple ID or App Store account.

4. Legal basis (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland:

  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for analytics events necessary to improve the app's usefulness. You can object via the in-app opt-out at any time.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — applicable when you first enable non-essential features that involve processing beyond your device.

5. Data retention

Analytics events are retained for a maximum of 12 months and then automatically deleted by PostHog. Local data on your device is retained until you delete it.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell or rent your data. Data is processed by the following third-party processors:

  • PostHog Inc. — anonymous in-app analytics on EU infrastructure (eu.i.posthog.com).
  • Google LLC — Google Analytics 4 for this website only, with IP anonymization enabled. Data may be processed in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Vercel Inc. — website hosting and CDN. Standard hosting logs are processed but not used for tracking.

7. Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Data portability
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Because we do not collect data that personally identifies you, in most cases there is no personal data to access, correct or delete. If you have questions, contact us at info@buqe.nl.

8. Children

The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app rating on the App Store reflects its educational nature.

9. Security

Communication with PostHog uses HTTPS/TLS. Local data on your device is protected by iOS standard sandboxing. We follow Apple's Privacy Manifest requirements and have declared all collected data types in PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
